What do you know about the AmeriCorps program?
How about the fact that each year, AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country? Or that 2.3 million community volunteers were managed or mobilized by AmeriCorps members in 2014?
AmeriCorps is a civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors that engages adults in intensive community service work with the goal of “helping others and meeting critical needs in the community”. It’s kind of like the domestic counterpart to the Peace Corps. A network of nonprofit community organizations and public agencies offer positions to members in the fields of education, public safety, health care, and environmental protection. Here at BBBS CM/MW, AmeriCorps has joined up with Mass Mentoring Partnership in order to better facilitate our program development and growth.
At BBBS CM/MW, we are proud to host two amazing AmeriCorps members who are working to help us reach our mission. Each AmeriCorps member serves for one year in community organizations throughout the United States, working to build organizational capacity. Our Corps members are currently working to expand our services, develop new partnerships, and provide strategic support to our mentoring programs. They’re developing and cultivating knowledge that will enhance the overall success of our programs; providing strategic support to our mentoring programs; and helping cultivate the growth of a culture of service in which contributing to your community is commonplace. Thanks Claire and Stefanie for all of your great work this year! Through their efforts, a new partnership was created with Nichols College in Dudley, and 20 matches have been made in Southbridge, an area BBBS hasn’t been able to serve for three years – proof that #AmeriCorpsWorks
So help us celebrate AmeriCorps Week through March 12th!
